The first public performance of Joby Talbot’s new cantata, commissioned by Independent Opera, which sets love poetry from across the ages.

Celebrating the bi-centenary of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s birth Britten Sinfonia and Independent Opera join forces to present the first public performance of Joby Talbot’s new cantata, A Sheen of Dew on Flowers. Setting some of the most beautiful love poetry from across the ages including works by Tennyson, Shelley, John Donne and Izumi Shikibu this new work will celebrate one of the greatest and enduring marriages in history.

The Riga Vocal Quartet, founded in 2017 by American conductor and singer Christopher Walsh Sinka, is comprised of current and former members of the State Choir LATVIJA and the Latvian Radio Choir. Specialising in new music, the ensemble premiered Gabriel Jackson’s Exile Meditations in July 2017 to high acclaim.
