National theater opera of Prague's flautist Jaroslav Pelikan (1970) has lived in a musical background since his childhood: he has been member of the Kühn's Children's Choir, at the Prague conservatory he has studied composition under prof. Feld and flute playing under prof. Jan Riedlbauch, at the Academy he concentrated on flute playing (he has been the student of prof. Valek and prof. Cech). In the years 1992-93, he has been engaged in Brazil where he tought at the conservatory and played in several orchestras and in a wind quintet. At home, he is member of several chamber groups (among others of the Duo Jers with Jaroslav Novak and of the wind quintet In uno Spirito) with which he has succesfully taken part in several competitions as the Mercury-Prix Vienna 1996, the Dusek competition and others.

Until today, he has devoted his composing activities to instrumental music. He is the author of two sonatas for flute and piano, of a violoncello sonata, of a 1. Chamber symphony, of a sonata for trumpet and organ and of a string quartet. His stay in Brazil has been important far the evolution of his style. There he wrote his second Chamber symphony, his third sonata for flute and piano, a Trio and a Concerto for oboe (performed too in Tokio on autumn 1999). A continuation of these tendencies are the Chorinhos (first performance at the Prague Rudolfinum on the 13. 10. 1999), a flute concerto with South-American elements (the use of a Spanish guitar for instance). In the Chorinhos, the author stylises the city folklore, so typical for the brazilian music.
