“One of today’s foremost solo bassists” (Double Bassist), "Striking for the subtlety of interpretation" (The Sunday Times), "Phenomenal bass player" (The Wire), Canonici has been awarded International Prizes for Interpretation in Paris, Darmstadt, New York.
He premiered works by some of the leading composers of modern history, such as Berio, Ferneyhough, Stockhausen amongst others. His most recent CD is as a duo with Jack Walrath, former trumpeter of the legendary musicians Charles Mingus and Ray Charles.
Canonici's repertoire also features several classical works, ie: Paganini, Rota, Koussevitzky. His recordings are worldwide distributed by TUTTI (www.tutti.co.uk).
