NICO SCHULER, Asst. Professor & Coordinator of Music Theory at Southwest Texas State University and Co-Director of the International Center for New Music (ICNM), holds degrees from E.-M.-Arndt University in Greifswald, Germany (M.A., Musicology) and Michigan State University (Ph.D., Music Theory). Previous teaching posts include E.-M.-Arndt University Greifswald (1991-1995), Michigan State University (1997-1999), and Central Michigan University (1999-2001). He joined Southwest Texas State University in 2001.

Dr. Schuler was the recipient of several major scholarships, grants, and fellowships. He was an invited speaker at national and international conferences and workshops in Germany, Czech Republic, Sweden, England, The Netherlands, South Korea, and throughout the United States and Canada. His main research interests are interdisciplinary aspects of 19th and 20th century music, methods and methodology of music analysis, computer-aided instruction (CAI), computer applications in music research, as well as world music (especially selected aspects of West African and of Korean music).

Dr. Schuler is the editor of the series Kammermusik heute (Chamber Music Today), a member of the editorial board for the Greifswalder Beitäge zur Musikwissenschaft (Greifswald Monographs in Musicology), and the author and/or editor of 15 books and numerous articles. He is also a contributor to the new editions of the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians as well as of Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart (MGG).
