Robert Farrell’s music has delighted and inspired a steadily growing audience. Combining elements of every era—Baroque richness, Classical clarity, and Romantic intensity—his compositions offer an exciting blend of magic and logic. “We live in interesting times,” says Farrell, noting that “imagination and innovation are developing hand in hand.” Joining natural gifts with modern recording techniques, the suites on his debut CD, Metaphysical Ignition, represent what Farrell calls “expressive art meets the 21st century.”

Farrell is President of Musicmint.com, a premier contemporary classical music website, winner of the Golden Web Award. The site includes downloads of Farrell’s inventive Quarks and Fantasias, free audio samples, insightful quotes and essays, as well as the Metaphysical Ignition CD, piano score and poster. The CD is also on sale at select New York City record stores. Farrell grew up in New York’s cultural hotbed of the 70’s, and studied improvisation briefly with the great jazz mentor Lennie Tristano. After studying Bach, Mozart and Beethoven, he gradually developed his own approach.

“Style is organic urgency,” says Farrell, a self-taught composer. Necessity became the mother of invention when his acoustic piano-needs became too large for his Kew Gardens studio. “A piano the size of a 9-foot Steinway requires huge studio space to sound it’s best,” he explains. “It was a stroke of fortune that my studio was not large enough, and I had to explore new possibilities.” He chose the digital piano for its powerful sound and remarkable clarity. Farrell brings a unique viewpoint to media interviews, on subjects ranging from the psychology of art to cultural trends. ###
