Yoonie Choi , cellist, began her musical training at the age of six with her aunt in Seoul, South Korea. She is a graduate of Westover School, Manhattan School of Music, Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and Kent State University. She was the cellist of the Anima String Quartet - ensamble in residence atKent State University from 2001 to 2003. Ms. Choi is a winner of Yuk-Young competition and Jo-Sun Newspaper Competition (Korea), the First Prize Winner of the American String Teachers Association Chamber Music Competition, and Arden J. Yockey Scholarship for Strings at Tuesday Musical Club in Akron, OH. Her teachers include Marion Feldman, Peter Rejto, and Benjamin Karp. A founding member of Trio Casalmaggiore, she has toured in the USA and Europe. In addition, she has performed in recitals and with orchestras in major cities of the United States. Ms. Choi has appeared in numerous music festivals such as Round Top (Texas), Park City International Festival (Utah), Oberlin at Casalmaggiore (Italy), Hampden-Sydney Music Festival (Virginia), among others. She has worked closely with Pulitzer Prize Winner American composer George Crumb on his solo sonata for Violoncello. “…impressive solo playing…” The Plain Dealer .
