| Mena Mark Hanna was born in London, June 1984, of Coptic Egyptian parentage. He has studied privately with Matthew Greenbaum, Robert Saxton, and Salvatore Sciarrino and has attended composition courses of Milton Babbitt, Sir Harrison Birtwistle, and Helmut Lachenmann. He has received a Master of Studies in Musicology with Distinction from Merton College, Oxford University, and is currently pursuing a DPhil in Music Composition at Oxford as a Marshall Scholar. His research interests lie in Coptic chant and speculation on music before the Frankish era, and music as liturgical and spiritual rite.
