Name: Clement Jewitt
Skills: Composer
Phone: +44 (0)1235 553637
Address: 30 East St Helen Street, Abingdon, Oxfordshire OX14 5EB, United Kingdom

Clement, now aged 58, began composing in his mid-forties following the collapse, owing to redundancies, of his previous career in Information Science. Previous amateur musical involvement included singing in choirs (Goldsmith's among them) teaching classical guitar privately, directing recorder groups, playing in brass bands, directing concerts of baroque music. He gained his music degree at Birmingham Conservatoire, where he also joined the Gamelan Kyai Pranaja and attended options in Indian Classical music. Both those musics have affected his composing style. Currently he is pursuing a doctorate in composition.

He has won two composition prizes: The Lennox Berkeley Cup for a brass quartet, 1994; and Woodwind Composition Prize at Birmingham Conservatoire 1996 for a piece for 11 bassoons and a contra-bassoon. Other competition entries have been sparse owing to age restrictions and a decision to seek commissions rather than write specifically for competitions. Commissions have been received for an unaccompanied choral piece (Come with me), a 'Bass Trombone Concerto' (nearing completion), various songs, and a piece for viola and percussion. He has written for various instrumental combinations, some theatre music, and a number of songs with different accompanying forces. He is planning for 1999 an extended song cycle (for mezzo Wendy Nieper) with mixed septet: 'Aspects of the Night Sea Crossing'. George Caird has performed his oboe and percussion 'With Your Own Light', and Corrado Canonici recently premiered his 'Intersections' for solo double bass.

Press comments on his music include: "... substantial and darkly atmospheric ..." (on 'Knit up the Ravell'd Sleeve of Care' - bassoons); "... Jewitt's sensitive expressions ... the intensity of the beautifully unfolding music ... an overwhelming statement of compassion ..." and "A powerful thought provoking epic dramatic score" (on 'Chechnya Story', theatre music with two actresses and ensemble).

Personal details: born in London, England; four grown children; supporter of Greenpeace, the Holy Island Project, the Medical Foundation for Victims of Torture; lover of trees; Sagittarius with Sagittarius rising; Metal Dragon.

Born in Carlisle 1957, and began playing at the tender age of 6, having been given the C scale and a Cornet from my Father Derek johnston himself a Musical Director of Brass Bands and male voice choirs. I won my first medal at 7 years of age, with the Rossington Colliery Band quartet under the baton of Johnnie Jones. Then my family moved to Dinnington Colliery Band where I played Cornet, after a few years I moved to Thurcroft Colliery Band again still on Cornet. From there I moved on to the then famous Cresswell Colliery Band on 2nd Cornet, the principal Cornet at that time was the Famous Mervyn Griffiths, who was as Famous in the North of England as Derek Garside. I spent many a happy hour after practise while the older players were having a pint, I was having individual tuition from Mervyn, who was a fantastic player and this was a great experience for me. My family then moved to Cornwall in 1970 when my Father was offered the position of Musical Director with the Camborne Town band. I was on 2nd cornet for about 18 months and was then moved on to 2nd Euphonium, I was with Camborne Town until 1974, having won the Areas 3 times in the Championship section, gaining 5th place in the Natonal Finals, and also winning the World Music festival in Kerkrade also in 1974. I then moved back to Cresswell Colliery for approx 18 months on Solo Euphonium, which was a great honour for me, also I was working in the colliery as a miner. After this I moved back to Cornwall & joined the St Keverne band on Solo Euphonium and bandmaster, having been trained by my father the art of conducting, I taught the Junior Band, and also when my Father was unavailable to conduct I would step in to take the helm. Having conducted the Band on many occasions, including Songs of praise (BBC TV) and also a tour of Germany. Throughout this time I won many awards in Solo competitions, such as Champion of Cornwall, Champion of the South West of England, all more than once. Also with my Brother Derek on Trombone, Brother in Law Peter Goldsworthy on Soprano, & Cathy Moor on Cornet (now with the BBC Concert Orchestra) we were the St Keverne Band quartet, again at the time unbeatable on many occasions.

I was the bandmaster for The St Keverne Band in Cornwall for 12 years. Musical director of The Redruth Town band for 2 years, at that time 1st section. Also being Musical Director for the Hayle Town Band for 2 years at that time 2nd Section. Due to my employment I moved away from Cornwall to Milton Keynes. Having played baritone for several for months for The Travelsphere Holidays Band (formerly GUS), I left this position due to work commitments, I then created my live internet radio station for Brass Bands to promote the movement to listeners on the internet, please feel free to visit the site www.brassbandradio.co.uk I am sure you will enjoy the music. After a couple of years or so with a heavy work schedule behind me, I decided it was time to get back in to Brass bands, The Wolverton Town Band in Milton keynes were looking for a Conductor, so I offered them my services and stayed with them for 9 months, they were very short of players and it was a task of re building the band to full strength, unfortunately this was not achieved, however the numbers were increasing to a total of about 21 members. But I decided it was time to move on and put my talent to better use. As from January 2006 I have taken up the appointment of Musical Director for the Bradwell Silver Band, Milton Keynes. I am also available to Conduct Bands of any standard, either as a relief Conductor or as a Band trainer to raise the standard of playing, for Contests or Major Concerts.

Raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, McNeil Johnston has been a professional musician since the age of 16. Having won numerous competitions and scholarships as both pianist and violinist, 'Mac' decided very early on that he would be pursuing a career in music. He credits his teachers in these formative years with a large part of his success: master piano pedagogue Ernest Chang, famed violinist Dale Bechtel, music theorist Oliver Stone (no, not the film director!), choral arranger Gary Heidel and conductor Peter Mesrobian. He served as concertmaster of the Hawaii Youth Symphony for two years, earned a full scholarship to the San Francisco Conservatory in 1976, was accepted as a piano pupil of the late Irwin Freundlich, then chairman of the piano department at The Juilliard School, and was selected in a nation-wide competition to participate in the 1975 Congress Of Strings, an A.F.of M. sponsored eight-week program held at the University of Washington. He attended high school at The Punahou School in Honolulu and graduated in 1977.

McNeil attended the Mannes College of Music, New York, and earned his Bachelor of Music Degree with a major in Music Theory and Conducting in 1985. He then earned his Master of Music Degree there in 1988 as a Composition major. Also during these college years, Mac performed extensively as a professional violinist, pianist and jazz bassist. While at Mannes, McNeil studied Conducting with Carl Bamberger, Vladimir Kin and Sidney Harth; Piano and Music Pedagogy with Marie Powers; Schenkerian Analysis with Carl Schachter; and Music Theory and Composition with Robert Cuckson, Larry Laskowsky and David Loeb.

After receiving his Masters', Mac explored the real-world aspects of music and music production, forming a partnership with David Ruffo, noted producer/recording engineer. Together, they started Outland Productions, a full service audio production house. During this period, Mac scored countless corporate videos, produced a slew of radio commercials and composed a plethora of jingles for a wide variety of clients. Through this exposure to the 'music for media' world, Mac became thoroughly grounded in the current state of music technology as well as that of diverse musical styles. Always fascinated by the grandeur and subtlety of the full orchestra, Mac has been a rare commodity these days -- a composer who insists on writing his own orchestrations. He also insists on actually playing the instruments he writes for, wherever possible. He translates this conscientious love of texture, color and detail to the work he does for his orchestration clients. Presently, Mac resides in Wilton, Connecticut with his wife Lisa and daughters Nicole (age 5), and Lizette (age 3).

Jaime was born on 23 September 1984, and she has lived in Plainville all her life. She always loved music even as an infant. At two and a half, seh learned to read words, and reading music soon followed. At age 9, she entered the music program at her elementary school, and chose to learn the alto saxophone. She surprised her teacher, and her parents, by learning the instrument very quickly. Jaime started arranging music that same year, when she was in fourth grade. As her musical talents excelled, so did her academic talents, she was double promoted, and she skipped fifth grade. By the end of junior high (eighth grade) Jaime was a very talented soloist. The high school she chose to attend, Tri-County Regional Vocational Techniacl High School, unfortunately doesn't have a music program, so Jaime continues to play on her own, but not in an ensemble. In the beginning of this school year, a freshman in high school, Jaime started composing. As of right now, she only has a couple of major works, but as her talents grow, so will her works.

When Jaime is not composing, she sings lead in a women's barbershop chorus, called the Harmonettes, a member of Harmony, Incorporated. She also is involved on her school's volleyball, wrestling, and track teams and the school drama club. At her vocational school, she is majoring in Auto Body Repair.
