A rare chance to hear Il Paria, one of Donizetti’s most innovative and daring scores, conducted by Sir Mark Elder with Britten Sinfonia.
Opera Rara is known internationally for bringing rare and neglected operas vividly back to life. Working in partnership with Britten Sinfonia, and featuring acclaimed Russian coloratura soprano Albina Shagimuratova, Opera Rara present Donizetti’s Il Paria, a work that brings a new exotic colour to Italian opera of the period, inspired by its setting in ancient India.

|Salzburg Whitsun Festival|
Cecilia Bartoli: 'I will pay homage to the castrati at the 2019 Salzburg Whitsun Festival. Being a festival of music, I would also like to focus on the moment of artistic climax and, in a way, the beginning of the end of the castrato craze in classical music history. I hope to show how castrati made such a huge impact on music lovers of the day, through their music and their singing.'

The chamber, in actuality, the library of the elegant Bantry House was the setting, and the entirety was magnificent.' - Kelly Ferjutz at the 2007 West Cork Chamber Music Festival

|Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi|
Spoleto's 'Festival of the Two Worlds', an annual international music, art and culture event, was founded in 1958 by Italian composer Gian Carlo Menotti. Menotti was artistic director of the festival until the mid-1990s, when he handed over the reigns to his adopted son, Francis Menotti. But as soon as Gian Carlo Menotti died in 2007, there were various legal wrangles about the festival's future, and Francis eventually had to give up attempting to reclaim it from a group of people including Italian film and theatre director Giorgio Ferrara, who was assigned as the new artistic director by the Italian government.
