Saverio Mercadante: Il proscritto

Opera Rara Artistic Director and internationally acknowledged 19th-century opera specialist Carlo Rizzi joins Britten Sinfonia and an exceptional cast in a revival of Mercadante’s Il proscritto.

This will be the first performance of one of Mercadante’s most daring and innovative scores since its Naples premiere in 1842. Restored from its original manuscript, Il proscritto weaves a tragic tale of lost love and political treachery during the rule of Oliver Cromwell.

In over 50 years of operatic archeology, Opera Rara’s mission has been to rediscover and restore neglected works of the highest quality, giving them new life through studio recordings and live performance. This concert will present Opera Rara’s 46th restoration of a forgotten work from opera’s glorious past.

Beethoven Die Weihe des Hauses Overture, Op. 124
Beethoven Ah! perfido, Op. 65*
Beethoven Mass in C major, Op. 86

Beethoven's primary concern in his radiant Mass in C major was 'not God or princes, but the human being entering the church.' A combination of spirituality and humanity can be felt in almost every bar of the piece, which treated the text and sentiments of the Mass as they had never been treated before. The result is a humble beautiful contemplation of the divine, invested with Beethoven's innovating, symphonic designs - one of his most unusual and touching works, and a fitting tribute to the composer himself, two-and-a-half centuries on from his birth. Greek-American conductor Peter Tiboris is at the helm of the Orchestra for a concert which also includes Beethoven's great concert aria Ah! perfido.

6th International choir and orchestra festival in Budapest

Budapest – a city with one of the best locations in the world: No visitor of the Hungarian capital can resist its beauty. The city enchants, impresses, and fascinates at the same time. The Danube divides the city into the hilly Buda and the flat Pest. The most interesting attractions of Budapest are the Fishermen's Bastion, the Mathias Church, the Royal Castle, the Citadel, and the Parliament building. It is here, “by the beautiful blue Danube,” that the Budapest Music Festival takes place.
