| St John's Newfoundland Details: Web site | Festival 500 - International choral festival Our unique international choral festival was purposely conceived and initiated in response to the threat to our culture by the enforced closure of the cod fishery in 1992. That fishery was not only a mainstay of the province's economy, but the raison d'être for European settlement. In fact, it was the social and economic engine of our society. Its closure was a devastation to our society, hallmarked by a plummeting economy and major out-migration. |

| St John's Newfoundland Details: Web site | Festival 500 - The Phenomenon of Singing - International Symposium VIII Festival 500, in cooperation with Memorial University of Newfoundland, invites you to attend The Phenomenon of Singing International Symposium VIII, an integral academic component of this international choral festival. The Symposium attracts international scholars, pedagogues and artists who come to engage with others in interdisciplinary discourse through the presentations of research, lecture-recitals, panels, poster sessions and roundtable dialogues. Presentations address a variety of aspects of singing and the voice including artistic, physiological, cultural, sociological, historical, pedagogical, psychological, creative/compositional... and more. The Symposium aims to gather international expertise, provide a forum for interdisciplinary discussion, performance and the dissemination of research, and generate further knowledge relating to the phenomenon of singing. |
