Forget your busy week and treat yourself to an evening of relaxing and invigorating classical music performed with charm and humour by one of the UK’s most brilliant musicians.

“Tall and talented, Warren Mailley-Smith is the embodiment of a modern romantic concert pianist…” – Musical Opinion

The brilliant piano music of the great Frederic Chopin has never been out of fashion since it first burst onto the international scene in the early 19th century. This music wasn’t intended for the great concert halls of today, but for the intimate setting of Parisian and London Salons of the aristocracy. This was the setting where Chopin felt most at ease and improvised many of his works for the first time.

The Way to the Sea

Collegium Musicum of London Chamber Choir
Greg Morris, conductor and piano
Adjoa Andoh, reader

Elgar, arranged Donald Fraser: Sea Pictures
James Horner, arranged Alan Billingsley: My Heart Will Go On
American traditional, arranged James Erb: Shenandoah
Byrd: All as a Sea
Mozart: Placido è il mar from Idomeneo
Paul Simon, arranged Hart/Morris: Bridge Over Troubled Water
Samuel Barber: To Be Sung on the Water
Traditional shanty, arranged Jonathan Willcocks: Drunken Sailor

Collegium Musicum of London returns to the Brunel Museum’s spectacular Grand Entrance Hall, on the banks of the Thames, for a programme of choral music and readings on a nautical theme.

Former CML member Caroline Crampton’s book, The Way to the Sea – about the Thames estuary – garnered great reviews when it was published in 2020, the Sunday Times reviewer observing that the author ‘writes beautifully of the area’s charms. Her first-hand knowledge of navigating the river gives the book a descriptive power that brings the whole area superbly to life.’

CML is delighted to welcome Adjoa Andoh, star of the Netflix hit Bridgerton, to read extracts from the book.

Alongside the readings, CML will perform a selection of ‘songs of the waves’, including works by Byrd, Purcell, Mozart and Barber – ending with a scintillating arrangement for choir of Elgar’s exquisite song cycle Sea Pictures. And there’ll be a few well-known seafaring favourites to round off the evening, including a quirky take on 'Drunken Sailor' and 'My Heart Will Go On' from the much-loved film Titanic.
