Note - there are two performances available: 6pm and 8.30pm In 2016 Warren Mailley-Smith became the first British pianist to perform Chopin's complete works for solo piano from memory in a series of 11 recitals at St John's Smith Square. Hailed by the critics as an "epic achievement", Mailley-Smith will repeat the series at several venues in 2022. He has given acclaimed solo recitals at The Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall and has performed for the British Royal Family on numerous occasions. One of the busiest concert pianists of his generation and gave over 100 solo performances in 2021. Since its formation in 2017, the Piccadilly Sinfonietta have become a regular feature on the UK concert scene, giving up to 100 performances a year in some of the country’s most beautiful and prestigious venues. The ensemble comprises some of the most prodigious musical talent and performs exclusively with leading virtuoso soloists. The group performs under the artistic direction of its founder, concert pianist Warren Mailley-Smith and focuses on the virtuoso concerto repertoire of the baroque, classical and early romantic periods. Former CML member Caroline Crampton’s book, The Way to the Sea – about the Thames estuary – garnered great reviews when it was published in 2020, the Sunday Times reviewer observing that the author ‘writes beautifully of the area’s charms. Her first-hand knowledge of navigating the river gives the book a descriptive power that brings the whole area superbly to life.’ CML is delighted to welcome Adjoa Andoh, star of the Netflix hit Bridgerton, to read extracts from the book. Alongside the readings, CML will perform a selection of ‘songs of the waves’, including works by Byrd, Purcell, Mozart and Barber – ending with a scintillating arrangement for choir of Elgar’s exquisite song cycle Sea Pictures. And there’ll be a few well-known seafaring favourites to round off the evening, including a quirky take on 'Drunken Sailor' and 'My Heart Will Go On' from the much-loved film Titanic. |
