Considering Matthew Shepard

Considering Matthew Shepard is Craig Hella Johnson’s three-part fusion oratorio about Matthew Shepard, a young, gay student who was kidnapped, severely beaten, tied to a fence, and left to die. Co-directed by WQXR’s Elliott Forrest and Rod Casper, the piece has been hailed as “stunning”, “complex”, “poignant” and “audacious”, with the story illustrated by a variety of musical styles seamlessly woven into a unified whole and a wide range of poetic and soulful texts by poets, Matthew’s journal entries, writings by his parents, and newspaper reports.
