Gala Orchestra Concert

Santa Cecelia Orchestra

Our Teddy Bear Concerts are a huge success with every seat taken. Once again, this year we added more concerts to make sure all of the young people in our audience have a chance to see and hear our musicians and their instruments and have added the brass instruments. We have scheduled three Teddy Bear Concerts for your family to meet our orchestra family.

Bring your children and their favorite stuffed friends to these delightful concerts that demonstrate how sounds, melodies, rhythms, and instruments can bring music to life. Kids and stuffed animals alike will have an opportunity to discover the orchestra’s string , woodwinds, or brass. . . or all three!

We will provide complimentary Milk and Cookies Reception after the concert. And you are invited to bring a sack lunch for your own teddy bear picnic before or after the concert on our grounds.

Britten Sinfonia: Rhapsody in Blue with Jeremy Denk

Jeremy Denk, piano

To include;
Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue (original jazz band version)
Stravinsky: Concerto for piano and winds

From its opening clarinet glissando Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue has become synonymous with 1920s America and its popularity continues to this day. Performed here in the original jazz band arrangement with acclaimed pianist Jeremy Denk the work is paired with Stravinsky’s rhythmically complex Concerto for piano and wind. Both works explore rhythm from the syncopated cadenzas in Stravinsky to the abundant use of dance and ragtime rhythms in Gershwin.
